We are seeking a talented Procurement Specialist with a strong foundation in Excel to join our team in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego, CA. This is an on-site, salaried position. Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Procurement Specialist are ensuring on-time order fulfillment by maintaining inventory levels in a cost-effective manner and assisting as needed with shipping duties. This position will be coordinating projects with the sales and production personnel, while working closely with the company president. They will communicate directly with vendors and potential suppliers and will be making purchasing decisions. The role blends skillsets in production planning, procurement, inventory control, transportation and customer service.
Outcomes
Inventory
Place purchase orders and coordinate deliveries or pick-ups to meet production schedule needs
Maintain current vendor pricing in database
Check in arriving inventory against POs for accuracy
Inventory amounts accurately ordered and entered into company database
Control costs with timely ordering, vendor comparison and minimized freight/pick up costs
Plan purchases for best pricing with volume discounts when available
Communicate with sales team regarding product availability and lead times
Maintain accurate inventory counts with monthly manual adjustments and a year-end count
Develop relationships with vendors for best outcomes
Research new suppliers and establish accounts
Shipping
Daily – Communicate and coordinate with shipping companies for pick-ups and deliveries
Occasionally - Serve as back up to dedicated Shipping role. Including creating ship labels from client Excel/CSV file formats, organizing ship labels for use by warehouse, emailing clients with shipment delivery updates and preparing shipping cost estimates for sales team.
Education/Experience
College degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management preferred
Purchasing experience
2-3 years related work experience
Skill Summary
Advanced level Excel spreadsheet and data management skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Ability to organize & track data from multiple projects for efficient use of time
Ability to anticipate and manage workloads to meet project time frames
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
Self-starter who can work effectively independently as well as in cross functional teams
Demonstrated sense of urgency and time management skills

Experience with FedEx and UPS software is a plus
Physical Requirements
Can be physically demanding with occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
Valid California driver license with clean driving record for occasional local pick-ups in own vehicle or company box truck
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary range $56k - $65k
